I've always liked making things and art in general. I made my artwork the way I did because it's stuff I like or it shows what type of person I am. I really wanted to make things that I would actually like in the end and not regret doing something else. some examples of tools/materials used in my artwork are acrylic paint, pastels, rolling pin, water colors, charcoal, clay, brushes, knives, and a couple other things. I really like basing my art on the world and nature and that's really what inspired most of my pieces. Overall I really enjoyed being able to do these projects in an actual art class.

Earth art is pretty much anything that you make with nature and that's natural. My artwork might have been one of the most common earthworks but I really like them so I decided to do one. Something that I found difficult was finding rocks that would stay on top of eachother. at first I wasn't exactly sure where I was going to do it but then we passed over jordan lake and the water was really low so I decided to do it there.
1.) The most successful print in my opinion was the Relief Print. You are supposed to first, carve out or cut out a design or a word (if you do do a word you need to make sure to cut it out backwards so that when you transfer the image, it comes out normal) and then you use an ink plate to put some color down. You can make the colors however you like. Next you would use the the brayer that you mixed the colors with to roll over your cutout. once you are done with that all you need to do is lay a piece of paper on top and push down on it and flatten it. I thought this was the best one because of its simplicity and how nice my prints came out.
2.) I would've liked to have done the monoprinting over. Here what you do is, put ink on an ink plate and spread it all over it and then you edge out a design that later you put a piece of paper over and smooth out with a baren. I wish I would have known better and put less ink on the ink plate before I made my design because once I smoothed it on and lifted it, it came out looking like a giant blob. 3.) I personally really enjoyed the screen printing. What you have to do is, first (what I found most difficult) you need to think of an idea you want to draw out on paper and cut out. Then once you have cut out your design, you put some tape on the edges and tape it onto a screen printer. Finally you just find some paint you like and scrape it on the opposite side if the screen printer. I thought this was a pretty sweet technique and it gave me great results. I like to try and make my stuff pop out in any way whether it be by color, humor, size, or creativity and that's really what got me thinking of this. I figured a cheeseburger isn't an every day thing or something you think about (at least for some). Then I was thinking of something I could put with it that wouldn't be common either and my thought went straight to a penguin. During the making of the cheeseburger I thought it would be cool to use the red clay instead since no one else was so I restarted it. I didn't really know what I was going to do to the burger so that it would be able to dry quicker but then I was told I could scoop out the inside of it and that would make it a lot better, so I did it. While I was making it I realized that their wasn't going to be enough time to make a penguin and i really didn't know what other animal I should do but then I just decided to make a shark. I always liked clay and mud as a kid so I really enjoyed making this, and have to admit that I played around a lot with the clay. I think I could have wasted less time and maybe would've been able to make the penguin but i overall like how it came out.
What inspired me to make this piece for this project was different images I had seen on google and a very similar design that my friend made. I used styrofoam, and glue to make this. figuring out what to do for this was more of a challenge than making it because I've never really made anything like this before. Making things like this I think help me become more creative mind.
We got the inspiration of making this painting from a piece of Abstract Art we had done before. We used a view finder to find the the exact part of the piece that we wanted to zoom into it and use to make a whole other piece of art. During the making of it, I realized how we really need to make sure not to put in too much. we also learned that it would have been way easier to put the all the lighter colors on first. I'm not really used to working in groups when it comes to art so I can be pretty annoying and take over but I think it got a lot better throughout the piece.
We observed that having more than one person doing one piece of artwork helps when you need ideas, especially when doing something abstract. We took risks when we didn't really know what else to put in and we just started adding stuff to see how it looked. We solved problems when we accidentally got a violet of the white and it started mixing so we had to dry it and go over it with another coat of white. We also had to do the best we could to make the same color as the background again to mix some little but noticeable mistakes. Artist Statement |
